About Eve Shields

Protective equipment that senses, for people who work near live electricity.

OUR STORY

Why we started

Personal protective equipment has improved enormously and has stayed fundamentally passive. A glove can be rated for shock, cut and flame, and it will still let a hand move toward an energised conductor without a word.

Meanwhile the instruments that could say something, the testers and detectors, live in a pocket or a toolbag. They get used at the points in a job where someone stops to use them, which is not the same as the points where something unexpected is present.

Eve Shields was formed around a straightforward question: if the hand is the thing at risk, why is the warning somewhere else?

OUR APPROACH

How we build

Sensing electric fields around a moving hand, inside a glove, next to a human body, is genuinely difficult. The body couples to everything, the hand changes position constantly, and the difference between a useful warning and a nuisance alarm is narrow.

We would rather take longer and produce something a safety officer will approve than ship something that reacts impressively in a demonstration and erodes trust on site. Every performance figure we publish comes with the conditions it was measured under. Every limitation we know about is written down.

That approach is slower. It is also the only version of this work worth doing.

WHAT WE STAND FOR

How we work

Honesty about limits

We state what our equipment cannot do as clearly as what it can. In safety equipment, an overstated claim is a hazard.

Evidence before claims

Performance figures are published with the conditions they were measured under, or they are not published.

Designed for the hand

Protection that is uncomfortable gets taken off. Comfort, fit and freedom of movement are engineering requirements, not finishing touches.

Built to be specified

Our documentation is prepared for the people who approve equipment, not only for the people who buy it.
